Prepare for Schaumburg’s Video Gaming Expansion with Accel Entertainment

October 4, 2019

Schaumburg trustees voted on Tuesday, September 24 to overturn the village's seven-year outright ban on video gambling. Trustees voted 4-2 in favor of two video gambling-related ordinances that will allow eligible restaurants and hotels to have up to six VGTs, effective January 1, 2020. New businesses must wait until January 1, 2021.

In addition to the normal criteria for a video gaming license that the State of Illinois requires, new gaming parlors will have to be 1,500 feet from any other gambling license holder and be a minimum of 2,500 square feet in size.

Plans also call for the village to allocate up to half of its $500 per machine annual fee for the treatment of gambling addiction among residents and place all revenues collected from the fees in an arts and entertainment fund.

At Accel Entertainment, we are excited to help businesses in Schaumburg take advantage of these new rules. We’ve previously written about the advantage of municipalities expanding video gaming, and we’re glad Schaumburg is getting on board!
