With Halloween around the corner, people are preparing up for the *spookiest *time of the year. Halloween is an extremely lucrative holiday for any small business. Spending is slated to reach a record high this year. This year, consumers are expected to spend $9.1 billion, up from $8.4 billion in 2016. This year, your bar or restaurant can capitalize on Halloween beyond just decorating your space or throwing a party.
###### Put on a costume, apple bobbing, or pumpkin carving contest
Halloween contests aren’t just for kids - they can be a great opportunity for adults to let loose and bring out their competitive side. There are dozens of potential Halloween activities for your business to host. The opportunities are endless; contests can be held on social media or be a one-day event at your business. Winners can take home prizes such as gift cards, dinner for two vouchers, or whatever prize best reflects your brand.
###### Reverse trick-or-treat
Go around to local businesses giving away candy to celebrate the holiday. If candy is not your thing, give away something with your logo on it (like a T-shirt, can coozy, bottle opener or key chain). Be sure to include a business card and any recent promotional information for your bar or restaurant with the treats. This is a fun way to solidify connections with other businesses in the area and advertise any specials or upcoming events.
###### Think smaller
This Halloween, your business can do more than just having a spooky party, all it takes is a little bit of planning. No matter what your business does, be sure to make a large marketing push on any social networks, email databases or platform you reach your customers best. While planning Halloween fun for your business, think “fun” and “scary” to guide your choices in making it a fright to remember!
